Approximately 15% of the population is affected by hyperopia, but this statistic tends to decrease in adulthood. Hyperopia is usually caused by an eye that is too short or insufficient refractive power, leading to images being focused behind the retina.
After the age of 18, hyperopia tends to stabilize, although changes may occur with aging. Uncorrected hyperopia can lead to eyestrain, headaches, and difficulties with near vision tasks.
Today, hyperopia, or farsightedness, can be corrected by reshaping the sides of the eye using an Excimer laser to increase the eye’s curve and obtain clear vision without the need for glasses or contact lenses.
