The goal of EVO+ lenses is to correct myopia from -3.00 to -20.0 dioptres and hyperopia without having to use laser surgery. We’ve developed an expertise with the lens of the STAAR SURGICAL company ever since the first generation of that lens, which we implanted in 1998.

HOW TO CHOOSE BETWEEN EVO+ AND LASER?
You’re probably wondering how two different solutions (intraocular EVO+ lenses and laser surgery) exist to correct the same vision problems. In reality, there are many differences between these two methods. These differences can help you make your choice between the two according to your needs.
- Quality of the treatment: EVO+ lenses and lasik are equally efficient in vision correction. However, for myopias of more than -7 dioptres, EVO+ lenses are now superior.
- Reversibility of the treatment: intraocular EVO+ lenses are removable, which means the procedure is reversible, while a laser procedure is irreversible.
- Protection against UV rays: the EVO+ lenses offer a UV protection, while lasik interventions do not.
- Incidence on «dry eyes»: intraocular EVO+ lenses don’t cause dry eye syndrome, while surgeries like PRK, LASIK, SMILE and RELEX could cause an ocular dryness.
WHAT ARE THE STEPS OF THE PROCEDURE?
Any surgery can be a source of stress. One good way to control that stress is to prepare yourself mentally for what’s coming. With that in mind, here are our tips and indications about what will happen before, during and after an operation that includes the EVO+ lens.
On the eve of and on the day of the operation: it is recommended not to use any cosmetic products or makeup on your face on the eve of the big day and on the day itself. Instead, simply make sure that your skin and your eyes are well cleaned.
The day of the operation, get comfortable: wear your favorite comfortable clothes and do your regular activities that morning (walking, exercise, etc.).
During the operation: The ocular anesthesia is done using drops. No needles are necessary, so you will feel no pain during the operation. After the anesthesia, your surgeon will make a small incision to insert the lens there. When it comes to the incision, it will close on its own after the operation. Depending on what’s optimal, your surgeon will operate your second eye after the first without delay.
After the operation: there’s a 24-hour sensitivity period during which you can’t drive or rub your eyes. A return to work is recommended after 24 to 48 hours. The speed of the recovery is one of the reasons why permanent lenses are so popular.
ARE THERE PAINS RELATED TO THE PROCEDURE?
Thanks to the anesthesia, no pain is felt during the EVO+ procedure. However, your eyes will remain a bit sensitive for 24 hours after the surgery, as indicated above.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS AND RISKS OF THE PROCEDURE?
Long-term benefits:
- Good option for patients who can’t or don’t want to have laser surgery;
- Causes no cornea aberration. The eye remains intact;
- No dry eye syndrome;
- Flexibility for the future. The patient isn’t limited, because the EVO+ lens can be removed to be replaced by a more advanced technology and answer future needs.
Short-term benefits:
- Dr. Pop considers that the EVO/EVO+ Vision ICL lens gives a precise correction with fast recovery, 24 hours after the surgery.
Short-term risks:
- Infection: since the operation requires an incision in the eye, the risk of ocular infection is never zero. However, it has never happened for our clinics’ patients so far.
- Today, thanks to modern microsurgery techniques, an ocular intervention entails almost no serious risk (less than 1 %). There is therefore generally no need to worry, even though it’s normal to be a bit anxious before undergoing an operation.
Long-term risks:
- Thanks to the reversibility of this procedure, these kinds of risks are limited and it remains possible to correct a problem after it appears.
